Personal Bio

I grew up on a dairy farm just outside the booming metropolis of Cumberland, Wisconsin (pop. 2280), with my parents and my two brothers. After graduating high school, I moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota.  I graduated with a 3.9 G.P.A. and a degree in Political Science, and shortly thereafter moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane Law School.

Like the city itself, my time in New Orleans was unique and memorable.  I went to law school, went to the French Quarter, hitch-hiked out of town (slightly) before Hurricane Katrina, and eventually returned to graduate cum laude.  For those who don’t speak Latin, I believe that means “did real good.”

After law school, I moved to New York and took a position with an insurance defense firm in Manhattan.  While there, I met my lovely wife, who was finishing her Ph.D. thesis. After completing her monumental work of genius, she was offered a post-doctoral position at UCSC. I happily encouraged the move, so that I could stand in front of the background in this picture and pursue my own dream of a solo practice.  Done and done.
